I've been nurturing Embers and Herbs for some time, years actually- cooking, hosting gatherings and refining our process. My intention is to launch Embers and Herbs in a way that truly allows us to turn our hobby into a sustainable business. So today I'm writing what might be considered a journal entry. I'm going document the process of growing Embers and Herbs into what I want. I'll be real I'm not even sure I'm a food blogger but we'll run with that title for the moment.

What do I want for Embers and Herbs?

Somedays I don't know what that is and not because I don't have ideas and dreams. There is this space between what you envision and the actualization of that. Some might call it "the work". After 20 years in finance, I'm redefining work for myself and pursing what feels close to my heart. Work that centers food, health, writing and creativity. When I think about what I want Embers and Herbs to be, here's a list that's subject to change as I continually define this journey:

    • a place for our recipes, stories and practices that are deeply rooted in food, well-being and family.
    • a place where my love of food integrates with my journey in studying public health
    • a resource for creating healthy practices that work for your household

    Why now?

I'm a hands-on-learner. What does that mean? I retain information through practice and integration. Having recently completed an academic semester focused on program and campaign development in health education; putting what I've learned into practice will serve as a way to enrich, absorb and share these gathered tools. I'm thinking health educator meets food blogger meets story teller. We will see how it all turns out. Hubs and I have been exploring food, gathering and wellness for over ten years, it's about time I write the recipes and practices we share down.

    What's next?

There is a part of me that wants to set all these grandiose and measurable goals. I also recently started a winter 5 week statistics class. So, I'm going to give myself some grace and a dose a realism. I'm starting small, finishing this post and completing two drafts that I've been sitting on for months.

As for these becoming a food blogger post, I'm excited to see what unfolds. As an avid journal keeper this feels like a way to acknowledge and celebrate my smaller milestones and wins while pursing my long-term goals.

I hope these notes encourage you to reflect celebrate your small milestones.

    Till the next post,

    Chris
